Pevention Works: Youth Suicide Prevention and Intervention
An estimated one in eight adolescents experiences depression, almost one in five Washington State youth says they have seriously considered suicide in the last year, and our state loses an average of two young people a week to suicide. Faced with these sobering facts, what can youth workers, educators, and parents do?
This presentation by the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, covers adolescent development and mental health, signs of depression and anxiety in teens, causes and signs of suicide risk, and what parents and other adults can do to create a supportive environment and intervene in a crisis. You will leave with more awareness of risk factors and signs of suicidal thinking and a basic intervention model anyone can use if they are concerned someone may be thinking of suicide.
Speaker: Karyn Brownson, King County Trainer for the Youth Suicide Prevention Program
